MOOSE CALF RESCUE

SOMEBODY EMAILED ME THIS AND IT WAS TOO GOOD NOT TO SHARE.
THESE ARE NOT MY PICTURES

We came upon this Cow and Calf on a very small island. As we were taking pictures, the Cow took off in the water towards shore and the calf followed. As we turned the corner of the island, we saw the Cow almost on shore but the calf wasn't even half way to shore yet. All of a sudden, I noticed that the calf wasn't going to make it. As we were heading towards the Calf, it went under a few times. At one point it stopped moving. As we got about 10ft away, it started moving and coming up to surface again. When we got beside it, all I could see was his ears. I grabbed the Calf by the ears to pull it up a bit and then I lifted the Calf right into the boat. The Calf coughed a few times and started breathing. We took a few pics as we rushed to shore to drop it off to Mommy.

Wolves take down Woodland Caribou better quality video

Hi everyone
A few weeks ago I was out ice fishing with my son Hayden on Nungesser Lake.
(yes we caught some nice walleye and some big whitefish and had a two really big pike bight us off)
We came in the night before, got up had breakfast and headed out to ice fish. As soon as we came around the corner , right behind camp, I saw two black wolves had a Woodland Caribou down.
We took some photos and video. We followed the tracks about 6 miles down the lake and the two black wolves had hearded that Caribou all the way down keeping it out of the bush. They went right past the front of the camp- probably about the time we were cooking breakfast. If we had looked out the front window we would have seen them. It would have been awesome to see the fight. I’m sure that Caribou didn’t give up easily Another set of about 40 Caribou trampled another path across the lake and also went right by the front of camp -probably in early morning.
The next morning Hayden and I walked about 50 yards from the camp to the back side of our island. We video taped the wolves who had been joined by two grey wolves and one mottled.
They weren’t friends and it showed. Plenty of fighting.
It took me a while to learn how to run my editing program to shorten the video so it wold be small enough to upload

It is not for everyone but this is what the wilderness and nature is really about.
It wasn’t a good day for the Caribou but it was a very good day for the Wolves.

I hope you enjoy

Memories from the Journal of the Walleye Wizard

September 30, 2009

Motored out the last saturday in sept.
Fairly warm for that time of the year.
Dark skies extremley cloudy all day.water temp 65 degrees.
Stopped at my favorite hole and caught some very nice very fat walleyes.
worked about 8-14 feet of water on a staging ground for whitefish close to where they would be spawning soon.

The action abated after a couple of hours so I continued on about halfway down the lake to another spot that had been hot.
The water was flat very little drift.
I was working a flat about 8-12 feet that dropped off into 25 feetThe spot seemed dead.
Wasn't marking fish and wasn't catching any.
In a little while I found out why.
A big northern hit my one quarter oz jig and shiner.
It was all I wanted to handle on that light walleye rod.
Through sheer luck it was hooked in the jaw where the line was not in it's mouth.
I had on a 12 pound florocarbon leader which would not have lasted a second if it got near her teeth.
After and exciting and lengthy fight a friend managed to land her.
What nice way to end the season on my last day.
