SPOT ON THE WALL OF FAME - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report

I thought it would be nice to share another great story  I received from some very fine guest's Rick and Mike.
Hi Kevin, how are you doing?

We had a great time and Belinda and Brian were very accommodating and helpful.

On Wednesday I mentioned to Denny that there was a blank spot on the "Wall of fame" just above Mike's picture, I said "I think that spot is for me"!
On Thursday, sunny and dry finally, we went to walleye point in the morning. As we trolled around the corner going south then west against the wind, I hooked a GIANT pike around 10:30 on  a saltwater Rapala (white with dark top).
It took off for a long while, then I was able to bring it in and as Mike netted the fish, the lure came loose :) happy . It measured 46 inches. We were able to quickly  take a few snaps and return it as soon as possible to the water.

We appreciated that you were at the camp during our stay and able to give us great advice.
(" I showed them the spot and was there when Mike caught his 48 inch Pike and took the attached photo").

So we both caught  our personal bests or the "Fish of a lifetime" (so far :) happy) , we need to improve on that next time.

I am attaching the best picture

and I used the same lure all of Wednesday and Thursday as I caught fish throughout those 2 days.

WE GOT THE ROOF ON - - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report

Stu_on_the_roof_of_new_lodge
I was looking thru some photos this evening and found these pics of Stu working on the Lodge roof.
I started building the new lodge dining room back in 2007 and was going to finish it the spring of 2008 but decided to wait until fall.
Turned out to be a good idea.
The economy went south in a hurry that June.
I've been waiting to "see how things go"
Ed Jantz and the guys helped throw a tarp on the roof that fall.
But finally decide to at least put the shingles on this summer.
Depending on how things look next spring I may go ahead and finish it off.
I will definitely be a great addition to the camp and will be a large dining room, lounge, with maybe a pool table, shuffle board, big screen TV etc.
A meeting place and focal point.
Anyway here is a pic of Stu on the roof.

Mr Loon Visits Again - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report

Mr. Loon came for another visit while we were out fishing.
He actually grabbed Jarod's walleye while he was reeling it in.
Everyone was excited about it including the loon.
Here is a pic of Jarods Pike
Conner caught a nice pike on a bulldawg while the rest of us were walleye fishing
He was King for the day.

More about Jarod and Conners adventures later.

The number one reason why I love this business. - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report

Here is an email I received from Steve a new guest . This  is a prime example of what makes this business so rewarding.

"A friend told me that 100+ walleye a day was not uncommon at Angler's Kingdom.  So I took my two boys, ages 5 and 9, and he was right!  We caught more fish than any other trip we've ever been on.  We are making plans now to return even longer next summer!"
"In the beginning of the week they would hardly touch the dead bait.  By the end of our trip, they were taking walleye off the hook by themselves!"

The first day I wasn't finding many fish. Kevin Geary not only met us on the water, but he showed me how to interpret the fish finder so I could actually see the walleye.  It gets better - Kevin even let us use his own fishing pole and tackle.  Thank you, thank you, Kevin, for a trip we will cherish for a very long time!"

Kevin, We are still planning to spend at least a week with you in late July.  Can you work the cabin availability so we could stay for 8-10 days?
And, I'd like to get a copy of your Pike DVD.  How do I do that?
Thanks,
Dr Steve Hryszczuk

I only went into town 3 times since May
I actually spent more time on the water this year.
Sorry didn't have time to do any posting but I'll try to rectify that now.

I'll put a bunch of photos up and then fill in the blanks

So check back often over the next few weeks.
I had a bunch of great quotes from our guests.

Been busy - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report

Hi Folks

My apologies for not getting reports on here sooner.

Basically the fishing was really good right after ice out catching fish in all the usual places in 8-10 feet of water. However we didn't have any guests until May 21. It snowed opening morning. Then it was basically cold and rainy for three weeks.

The fish moved into 14 feet and eventually into 20 feet.

The past 2 weeks the shiner spawn and warmer weather brought them back into 6-10 feet with the pike being even shallower. The numbers and size has been great.

Here is a few pics of some Hayden. Deb and I caught.

will post more soon

The fishing will be great this year - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report

Hi everyone All is well here in the north. Getting things ready for the season It is getting time for you to get ready as well. If you haven't confirmed your spot now is the time - many are full. I'm starting to get the traditional questions about "How's the ice?" Well here's the scoop There is not much good ice. lots of soft white ice but only about 6 inches of good clear stuff. It looks like it will be an early ice out. but it always depends on the weather. I'll say April 18 but in reality it is still too early to tell Just some intuition and a few years experience. The guys just pulled their equipment off of the winter road. fully loaded semi's were using the ice road just a few days ago. This past weekend I drove across the lake to Cochenour to take Seanna to her figure skating yearly exhibition. ( she won gold at events in fort frances and thunder bay) Still no problem driving snow machines on the lake. but this year I think it will go fast. People will have to take a second look before crossing any of the lakes. I'll keep you posted. One thing is for sure - The fishing will be great this year. kg
