SPRING 2015 FISHING REPORT

VERY EARLY ICE OUT.

The ice went out about May 3. We went into camp May 11

Of course we had to check to see if the fish were still there so John, Tyler and Rene went 2 minutes from camp and sure enough there were lots of walleye in 4-6 feet of water including sever 28-29 inch walleye.

Tyler got a 29 Rene caught several over 28.
Belinda as well.
Hayden and I went out one day for a few hours and caught over a hundred with a few over 29 inches.

We had more than a few trees to clean up that had fell thru the winter.

Guys started checking that all the equipment on every boat was repaired and working properly.

We installed four more new 50 hop hondas.

We started a big project of replacing the floor boards and new carpet in all the boats.
we completed 6 and will keep working on more next year.

LOTS OF FISH OFF THE DOCK

we were catching dozens of walleye off the dock each evening with many over 28 inches.

one evening I had four different pike grab walleye on my line.

too bad there were no guests in camp to enjoy the action.

 Rene tackled several projects including a new smaller deck on cabin two.
we didn't build a new deck across the front because I plan to expand cabin two next year.
It will be a very desirable cabin when renovations and additions are completed.

More behind the scenes work - the new boat house.

 Heres Rene putting a temporary roof on the Water Tower.
Rene had to go - will have to finish up next spring.

Dave and I continued putting the roof on the boat house addition.
This might not seem like work being done for our guests but it is.
The boats need to be protected to stay in better shape for our guests.
The boats spend 9 months of the year waiting to be used, no point in having the out in the weather for those nine months.  It is a lot of work building at a remote location and I'd like to spend that effort building the new lodge but the boats are important. This is less work than building temporary shelters each fall.

We built it in such a way that we can remove the posts to park boats then reinstall them for the winter snow load.

Also a smaller garage for the lund pro V

Next yearI would like to build a garage for the 22 foot lund type and the 24  foot with he 225.
by the way we added another important piece of equipment.
I bought a 200 Honda to put on the 22 foot lund Tyee.
This will be a great addition for those days when it is raining and windy.
The Tyee has a full cover and is big enough to be comfortable in big waves.

So now we will have more than enough boats for transporting guests without having to use the guest fishing boats. This allows us time to clean and maintain them on change over days.
we now have three 18 ' with 50 , 75 & 90 hps two 20 ' with 90 & 130hps and the 22 ' with 200 hp

In the river we have three 18' with 50 and 90 hp and one 20' with 115.

So even though the economy is difficult we continue to make positive improvements to serve our guests better.

The big Pike spend very little time in the weeds - NORMALLY however the first two weeks of August 2015 the big pike were in the weeds and our guests caught quite a few huge pike in 4-6 feet of water. Two were over 50 inches and several 48 inches. Those are huge pike in any lake and very few lakes produce 50 inch pike. The pike in Nungesser are very thick and healthy and therefore much heavier that in other lakes. And they fight extremely well. I've fished over 300 lakes across Canada and caught literally thousands of big pike. I can tell you from experience that the average pike in Nungesser fights harder and jumps out of the water more. They fight more like a musky and they are shaped more like a musky. Then again the big walleye in Nungesser are also heavier and thicker than other lakes. It must be the huge amount of ciscoes and whitefish that make up their diet. The same thing that makes them bigger and stronger also makes them harder to catch.  Their food - ciscoes and whitefish spend very little time in shallow weedy areas where anglers have learned to search for them. One more thing that makes Nungesser such a great lake to fish.

Guests enjoy viewing beautiful Bald Eagles and Rare Golden Eagles right from camp

We have 8 Bald Eagle nests and one Golden Eagle nest within a one mile radius of camp. Our guests enjoy excellent viewing right from the deck of their cabin. Combined with Woodland Caribou that wander through camp and bear, moose and wolves seen around the lake makes this area a mecca for wildlife viewing.

More behind the scenes - putting boats away for winter.

We bought several new boats so we can move our guests quicker and safer so now we need to add on to our boat house.
Of course the discovery channel's alaskan bush people has nothing on us.
See how we do it "bush man style" with a bit down town Chicago high rise technique.
Just a little insight into how we "git er done" in the great north woods.

Of course every fall we have to put all the boats away and to keep them in nice shape they need to be covered. In the first few years of operation we built temporary shelters over each individual boat.
It didn't take long to realize that was a lot of wasted work each year.  So we built a permanent boat shelter/ house. Each year we learn a little something that saves some time. this fall it was moving the block from boat to boat and using our ten ton winch without having to move it - saved probably 20 minutes per boat and a lot of manual labor. In the above video Rene is using it to assemble the upright trusses

Mike and Rick were up for their annual fall GIANT pike hunt they caught this nice big walleye on a

Here are some of the Trophy Pike they have caught in the past few years.
The pressure is on to catch more pike over the magic 50 inch mark. Very few anglers have caught pike over 50 inches. Not many lakes produce pike over fifty inches every year. Guests of Anglers Kingdom have averaged more than 2 per year since we started. Plus 4 or 5 over 48 inches each summer.
