Belinda tops her biggest walleye ever. Ginormous 30 inch beauty

Belinda has broken her record.
She was sitting at 29.5 inches until September 14, 2018 when she pulled in this humongous walleye.
I had caught a dozen 20 plus and two 27” along with a 29.5” gorgeous big fat girl like a football.
The past few weeks we had been catching plenty of big walleye near this location less than a minute from our dock. That day the walleye in 18-20 foot so I followed this trough out towards 35 feet. The first decent walleye I caught was ice cold!!?? So I continued working deeper and found a sweet spot. All the walleye were over 20” and they were all fat like footballs. Perfect in every way,
I didn’t have my camera so will post photos when Ryan and Curtis send up photos.
The next day in another spot Ryan  caught a 44 inch pike.  Rick and Mike caught a 43.5” as well.
I will post those photos as soon as I receive them.

Were up for their first visit to the Kingdom. I guided them the whole week. (First time I have been healthy enough to guide a full week since ??) I have been feeling better this summer and might actually be on the back end of this illness that has disabled me for the past 12 years.
Anyway
Brent broke his personal best with a 28 inch walleye the second day along with a very respectable pike. Brent followed up with another Mammoth Walleye right in front of camp. Steve caught his largest walleye ever. They both “Loved everything that Anglers Kingdom has to offer. The people, the location, the cabins, the fishing, the equipment. These boats are outstanding. Unheard of in a remote camp or anywhere for that matter. The cabins are like 5 star.”
They topped things off with a few dozen 22-25 inch walleye. All nice big healthy fish with plenty of belly fat. We probably caught over 1000 walleye this week.

They really enjoyed the “Eagle Show” and the other Outdoor Encounters.

Beautiful start to a great day. Hayden is going thru the checklist with a new group. The checklist is done with each guest at the beginning of their stay to maker certain everyone is familiar with the machine and confirm everything is in onboard and in good working order. Staff go thru the checklist each evening when they gas the boats.

“MORE BIG FISH THAN PAST YEARS”

“More big fish than in past years” is the most common report I have been getting from guests. That goes along with what I have been saying each year. “The more you fish this lake the better you like it”.

Brian Wolosek had a rough morning because he got a hook in his finger but he had a great afternoon because he caught a 30 inch walleye. Not a 28 or 29 but a 30 inch walleye. That is the 3rd  30 inch walleye we have caught in 2018. Which is amazing. Most lakes don’t produce any 30 inch walleye, ever. We have been averaging about a dozen per year. Actually in 2012 I caught a dozen 30 inch walleye myself!!! And a dozen more by my guests. Nungesser Lake is an awesome walleye lake. But like any lake you need to learn how to fish it and that goes back to my motto about the more you fish it. I do my best to share as much information with my guests as possible and in most cases I can help guests catch fish pretty quick. After that it is a matter of acquiring knowledge and refining your craft. It is nice to know that your chance of catching a 30 inch walleye is better here than any lake I’ve ever  fished or heard of. 27s, 28s sure lots of them 30s that is a lot more rare.

Anyway hopefully Brian’s and Gary will send me photos of their 30s.  Meanwhile here is some random photos.

MOVING BOATS ACROSS OUR PORTAGE

Many people ask how we get materials and supplies in to Anglers Kingdom. Gas, Propane, food, lumber even boats and motors. Our portage is not really designed to be having big heavy boats hauled across it.  However we had to get it done quickly so we performed some modifications and made it work. Each boat took about 4 hours. Half the time was spent fixing the areas where the wheels broke thru.  In the past we winched the boats on log rollers. But i didn’t want to chance damaging the hull on any of these gorgeous boats. So we modified our 16 foot trailer to handle 20 foot boats.
Here is a few photos of bringing a 20 foot Lund Alaskan with a 90 tiller on it. But we also had a 130 honda inside of it and a full internal tank full of gas PLUS we had a bunch of water from the previous nights rain.

FINEST FLEET OF BOATS IN CANADA

HERE ARE A FEW PHOTOS OF OUR LUND PRO V FISHING BOATS.
I believe we now have the finest fleet of fishing boats to be found at any remote fishing lodge in all of Canada. After the fire destroyed 24 of our boats including our Lund Outfitters with 50 hp Honda’s I decided to replace them with Lund PRO Vs. So we now have 18-20 foot Lund PRO Vs with 90 - 150 four stroke motors. Wonderfully outfitted with the latest sonar units with 7 inch screens, down imaging, CHIRP, and GPS.  We are also working on auto chart Scanning all of our fishing spots so guests will have highly detailed maps of the best fishing spots in the lake.
And of course the boats have live wells, 25 watt radios to keep in touch with your fishing buddies and contacting the lodge in case of any issues - (even if you run out of soda). They also have either electric or 4 stroke trolling/kicker motors.

June 16-23

By the time I post this June 16- 23 will have gone by. Jack Beavers and his group were here and they reported catching well over 2000 fish. They caught more big fish this year than any of the 10 years they have been coming. Jack is usually up again in September.

Kevin, just a note of “thank you” for getting the camp ready as best you could for our group. Some of us whined about the water or no hot water, we survived!

Fishing was great this year, especially for large walleye’s, despite the very warm weather and no wind. 

The guy’s are already looking forward to next year. Sam had a great time. 1st Time fishing out of a boat. It was a special time for me.

So maybe finally found the trouble. 

I was getting ready to drive to menards in international falls to buy one for them.

Sorry the water wasn’t running properly for you guys.

It SEEMS LIKE WHENEVER YOU HAVE THE MOST WORK TO DO IN THE LEAST TIME MORE STUFF GOES WRONG.

I will try to begin describing everything about the fire. If I was to write this right after the fire It would be mostly anger. It started at 2 am on May 20th. Fire inspector reports i=the fire started at the two wires coming out of our solar system inverter. The system was not being used at the time. But had worked perfectly for 2 years?? Everything was ready for opening. We had gone thru everything on each boat. Hayden and I cameinto camp late march and had re done everyconnection on each electronic device isn’t eh boats. We had fixed seats, repaired floors, new carpets etc etc. We did more work than any previous year. The boats were READY.  We were talking about putting the boats in the water the next day.  I sure wish that we had. We lost 20 boats and 32 motors from 50 hp to 225 hp. Guests fishing boats and our big work boats. They were not insured for fire. So at the end of it all I will lose about $400,000 worth of boats and 100,000 in other stuff not covered. and an unbelievable amount of work.

We had hauled in way over 4,000 worth of groceries just that evening. Plus all th e propane, gas, other supplies, building materials etc etc. And of course the literally thousand of parts. Plumbing,  electrical, hundreds of parts for the New addition to cabin 2. All of our tools for carpentry, welding, mechanical, well over 30,000 just for tools and parts. The solar system was 20K, our water filter system was 10K 

The rebuild

We fought the fire from 2 am to 7am with every ounce of energy we had. The MNR fire crew arrived by chopper at about 7am. They helped put out the fire that had burrowed into the ground following roots . At 2pm they found a fire under cabin 3. If it had been missed it would have taken out the rest of the camp. Within a few hours we were rebuilding. We had the water and electricity to this half of the camp by that evening. Four days later we were bringing in boats. We flew some in by chopper. 

It was the beginning of a very very long month of intensive hard work. The short version is that we did it. We had 10 boats on the water ready to go in 7 days. We had rebuilt all of the systems and replaced most of the food, propane, gas etc. It was an amazing feet and I am so proud of Hayden. He was truly awesome.  Debra and Gigi were also awesome with all the help they provided. I will get into the details of the ordeal we went thru. For the whole week i felt like I was in the twilight zone. It was unreal how many things went wrong. At one point  mid week Debra asked me “ when are we going to give up. This looks like it is not meant to be.”

of any remote fishing camp in Canada

Back to what we come here for - the fishing

AMAZING VIDEO HUGE PIKE IN SPAWNING BAYS

Hard to tell from the picture but these are huge pike. They are about 43-47 inches. There was one that was close to 50 inches.  We saw about 15 big pike.  I’m sure there were many more that we could not see thru the weeds. They have finished spawning and are just laying around warming up in the shallow water.the warmth helps them recuperate. The black bottom in this area warms up fast in the sunlight.  It is very difficult to  get a boat close enough to get a photo like this. Hayden used his drone.  We have some great video as well - I will upload asap.
The little males were about fifty yards away. We saw dozens of them along the side of the creek.  The males in most lakes are all about 20 inches long. Some maybe close to 30 but 90 % are in the 20 inch range.

Hayden and I fished for literally 30 seconds and each of us hooked into nice size walleye.
Released of course. But definitely funeral to catch.

HAYDEN AND I TOOK A BIT OF TIME AND WENT LOOKING AT THE BIG PIKE IN THEIR SPAWNING AREAS. WE TOOK SOME AWESOME VIDEOS AND PHOTOS WHERE YOU CAN SEE 3 HUGE FEMALES RIGHT CLOSE TO EACH OTHER.


 DURING THE ACTUAL SPAWN THE TINY MALES (18-20”) RISK THEIR LIVES BY GETTING RIGHT UP NEXT TO THE MAMMOTH FEMALES. AT TIMES THERE CAN BE 10 OR MORE OF THESE TINY MALES SLILTHERING ALL OVER AND AROUND ONE 50” FEMALE.  A FEW DAYS OR EVEN HOURS LATER THOSE SAME FEMALES WILL HAPPILY EAT THE FATHER OF THEIR BABIES.
SO TODAY THE LITTLE MALES ARE ABOUT 50 YARDS AWAY ALONG EACH SIDE OF THE CREEK. WE COUNTED ABOUT 60 OF THEM.
 WE ALSO SAW MANY  THOUSANDS OF  SUCKERS JAMMED IN BELOW THE LILTTLE WATER FALLS.  AND ABOUT A DOZEN SMALL MALE WALLEYE IN THE 250 YARD STRETCH. I CAN ENVISION MANY HUGE FEMALE WALLEYE SPAWNING IN AMONGST THE ROCKS BELOW THAT FAST FLOWING WATER.
BACK TO THE PIKE.
SEVERAL OF THESE FISH WERE OVER 45 INCHES. WE DIDN’T HAVE MUCH BATTERY TIME ( ABOUT 10 MINUTES) AND THE WIND WAS VERY STRONG.  THE WAVES AND LIGHT ANGLE MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE INTO THE WATER. BUT I BEILEVE I SAW ONE FISH OVER 50 INCHES. SHE WAS IN REALLY HEAVY COVER AND VERY DIFFICULT TO SPOT.  THE VIDEO CLIP I WILL TRY TO UPLOAD SHOWS 3 FEMALES ALL IN THE 45 INCH RANGE. I HAVE SEEN MANY 50 INCH PIKE IN THIS LOCATION AND  WE HAVE CAUGHT DOZENS OF 46-48 INCHE PIKE OUT OF THIS AREA.

2018 Ontario Ice Out Report Nungesser Lake, Anglers Kingdom

2018 ICE OUT AND CHRONICLE OF GETTING CAMP READY. 

APRIL 28 
Well the snow has finally melted off the ice. We had some rain a few nights ago and some snow yesterday. So with the sun today the ice has melted about 2-4 feet away from the beach in front of camp.

Here is the first of several photos chronicaling  the ice going off Nungesser lake in 2018.

We made two trips to the road today. Lake was good. Trail from Nungesser to the road was pretty rough. Most snow gone, several areas with 1-2 feet of water. Made it interesting.  Will try to get some pics of it next trip.

HAYDEN PUT A MOTOR ON THE 20 FOOT  LAKE WINNIPEG YAWL .  I BOUGHT I A FEW YEARS AGO AND WE NEVER GOT A MOTOR ON IT. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HOW IT HANDLES A HEAVY LOAD AND BIG WAVES. THE COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN ON LAKE WINNIPEG DESIGNED AND BUILD THEM FOR HUGE LAKE WINNIPEG.
