SUNDAY JULY 18 2010 GIANT WALLEYE BONANZA

scattered showers in the morning, a few thuder storms running around.

This evening I finally got out with Dennis, Belinda and Seanna

We fished a 14-18 foot flat comingout of 35 feet of water. We caught a bunch of nice eaters.
Seanna had a 40 inch pike right up to the boat but it got off the hook.
that slowed the walleye for about a half hour
then had a 30 minute frenzy with several 20-4, three 26 inch walleye, a 27 and 28 1/2
All in all a pretty good couple of hours.Last wednesday Seanna had a 35 inch pike come out of the water 3 times chasing her walleye.
while it was doing that the other walleye started biting like crazy.
A few minutes later another pike over 40 inches grabbed a different walleye, it let go beside the boat. 5 minutes later a third pike about 33 inches grabbed her walleye.
None held on long enough to land but Seanna was thrilled.
Everytime the pike were busy the walleye fed voraciously.

In the past week I counted 12 different pike attacks on walleye.
The Wolosak group had one they figure went over 50 inches grab a walleye and get right close to the boat. ( last year they had a big pike go after a 27 inch walleye they were netting and ended up in the net) I was releasing Belindas twenty eight (28) inch walleye and had a big pike come up and grab it.

Here is a beautiful eagle photo I received from Frank Thies
Thanks Frank

Here is a sample of some of the fish we caught at Angler's Kingdom, The Northerns we caught vary from 24 to 36. They grabbed a lot of walleyes when we caught them. My son had one 45 incher grab his walleye, then shot under the boat. After a tug of war the northern shot under the boat, and then when it returned my son saw the walleye only. 5 seconds later the northern grabbed it again eventually letting it go.

My son was especially impressed in how all that could be had on an island. Even the hot water pipes that run outside from cabin to cabin are insulated, and flush toilets on an island. Wow. Kevin really put a lot of work in that camp. Another thing Kevin takes time out to join you in fishing his favorite spots. Those mobile radios are also great. As for walleyes I don't think there is any other place where you can catch so many walleyes. Not only that but you can be sure a northern is around waiting for his dinner. What fascinated me was when it was time to gas up the boat in the morning the guy comes with a fifty gallon drum of gas and pump in his boat and fills us up in a matter of minutes (Portable Gas Station} Another thing Joyce ,the cook, and Bellinda bend over backwards to help you enjoy your meals. Can you imagine Joyce makes cookies everyday to snack on with your afternoon boat lunch. Her nick name is cookey. I wonder why. icon_lol.gif After supper she is already asking what you want for breakfast. I have been in many resorts before, but never had that much attention on meals.

My son and I are planning to go back next year, and we are doing some research on the best connections via air planes. This time we flew non stop from O'hare to Winnipeg. Then we rented a car and drove the rest of the way. Coming home we flew from Winnipeg to O'hare in one hour and forty five minutes. It is hard to believe. Normally it takes a little over 2 hours.

Here's a clip of some eagles having a nice 4th of July
feast.

Saturday, July 3, 2010

Sunny and calm in the early morning until about 10am. Sudden storm that took off a few dozen trees within a matter of minutes, the storm also lasted about 15minutes. Strong winds from the east with water temperature at 67 F. Clear skies in the evening with subtle to no winds.

Dan from cabin 6 went out after the heavy storm to eagles nest and caught about 47 walleye, the biggest at 20” "This is the best walleye lake i've ever fished or even heard of."

Craig and his group got in about 4pm and went out for a few hours and caught a few dozen. No doubt is was a slow day due to the heavy storm. Things should pick up tomorrow.

Kevin and his family caught about 40 walleye in a few hours by Ferrit Bay in about 14 to 15 feet.

June 26-July3

Saturday
overcast and east wind
thunder storm went thru about 10 am and another came close about 3pm

fishing was kinda slow
Daryl Deno group arrived today, fished 4 hours and caught about 65 walleye
Donny Nemer and the boys arrived today, did about the same.

Rod friese group caughts "lots" of walleye including a 28incher.
Peter Yii group got a 39 inch pike - plenty of walleye.

I went out with Dennis for a few hours
took a while but finally anchored near a 6-7 foot rock pile right where it dropped from 13 feet to 16 feet and then flattened out at 16 for quite a ways.
saw quite a few on the graph so sat on top of them and baisically coerced them into biting.
at first we had to leave our bait perfectly motionless about 3 inches off bottom.
after half an hour we had created our own little feeding frenzy and they were hitting a foot or so off bottom.
I saw a big pike on the graph and it stayed under the boat for a good 5 minutes.
I was just radioing Donnys boat to see if they had some suckers when a 48 -49 inch pike grabbed a walleye as I brought it up.
It was right at the boat and her back was out of the water so I got a good look at her.
Unfortunately the hook fell out of the walleye
oh well -would have made a nice photo.
everything shut down so we went in for supper.

Sunday June 27
Strong North wind and rainy
very few guest even went out.
Saw a whitetail deer crossing the cut beside camp
that is the first white tail we've seen here
Have seen several in the river the past few years.
and actually quite a few this year.

Monday june 28
Dennis fished with Dave and Brad Josephson
They caught over 60 walleye in North Bay most off ealge nest and some off the peninsula.
"That reminds me of a few years ago" said Dennis ( AND HIS EYES KIND OF GLAZED OVER) ( NOT SINISTER LIKE)
"I had some folks with me and we fished the Peninsula and had over 80 walleyes before lunch "
FOLKS I HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO YOU HOW SIGNIFICANT THAT IS
DENNIS SELDOM LEAVES THE DOCK BEFORE 10AM
DENNIS ACTUALLY LIVES BY MY SLOGAN OF "YOU HAVE TO GET UP PRETTY EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON TO BEAT ME OUT ON THE WATER"
He does however live up to his name of the WALLEYE WIZARD.

Just wanted to say thanks for a nice week. You seem to have found some
really good help this year in Carlos, Rene, and Ron.

Fishing was spotty but we did get on a good bite on Saturday night on the
hump in North Bay. My Dad landed a really fat 28" walleye and I had a big
northern (~42") hit my leech--got it to the boat but it broke off before we
could get her netted. Had a bunch of smaller walleyes as we drifted across
and down the back side of the hump. It was nice to get on a spot that kept
producing fish.

Hope the rest of the summer goes well for you. We'll probably try to come
back June 19-26 next year with a group of 4 to 6. Can you pencil us in for
a housekeeping cabin?

7/1
Early overcast with strong winds blowing from the east. 3 to 4 foot swells, pretty rough.
Chuck and Paul again went out with Dennis, caught some nice sizes and had a huge pike take a swipe at a walleye Paul was reeling in for a total of 187. "I KNOW THERE ARE BIG PIKE IN THE LAKE BUT WHEN YOU ACTUALLY SEE ONE RIGHT BY THE BOAT - WOW" -Paul Shubert

I WAS OUT WITH HAYDEN AND HIS GRANDPA
IN A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR WE CAUGHT OVER 30 IN 14-18 FEET OFF OF JACKS HUMP.
NOTHING BIG
DENNIS, PAUL AND CHARLES WERE RIGHT BESIDE US AND EVERYTIME I LOOKED CHARLES WAS PULLING IN ANOTHER WALLEYE.

David and Bradley brought in about 120 walleye, the largest at 23”. Bradley also caught a 32” pike by the sisters. They also spotted a wolf, caribou behind the dining hall and caught an eelpout(burbot).

Randy and Darryl’s group had a slow morning but picked up in the afternoon with some good sizes including a 26" walleye

Dons Group caught a total of 87, Dom caught the biggest Pike of his trip at 34”
