Fishing the Sand Flats - Ontario Red Lake Fishing Report
8/30
Overcast throughout the day, with threats of thunder. Dead calm until noon light wind afternoon. Water temperature at 66F.
Chuck, went out and worked the weed beds for them pike all up and down the east side of the lake. He “caught three, but landed two” 33”,36” and the “one that got away, must have been at least 50 inches, like the one on your dining hall wall.” He is referring to a 49 ½ “ pike caught by Paul Kuhn last year around this time. He will work the weeds again tomorrow.
I was out with Mike, and his brothers and had success fishing the sand flats, Ferrit bay and jacks hump, We went thru about 14 dozen minnows and about the same in crawlers.
Likely about 3- 400 walleye. biggest was 26 a few 24 and 23. Quite a few nice fat 17 inchers.
Had a pike come and grab a walleye, got some good views as it hit 3 or 4 times beside the boat.
8/29
Scattered thunderstorms up until 3pm. Mild winds from the north with some showers. Water temperature was at 66 F.
Chuck went out for a few hours in the morning, before coming in to wait out the thunderstorm that was going on. After the storm had cleared, he went back out to lemonade lake, with little success. Hopefully things will pick up tomorrow.
Mike and his brothers went out to the sand flats and didn’t have much luck, they caught about 20 walleye between the six of them. Not good at all. Thunderstorms kept the fish low.
